Cox Energy awarded contract for Rosarito Desalination Plant
Mexico’s National Water Commission (CONAGUA) has awarded the contract for the construction of the Rosarito Desalination Plant and its associated pumping station to a joint venture led by Cox Energy, S.A.B. de C.V. and Spain’s Cox Water, S.L.
The project, valued at approximately $310.3 million (over 5.2 billion pesos), aims to secure drinking water for the coastal regions of Baja California, specifically targeting Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, and parts of Ensenada. The contract follows an international bidding process that faced previous rejections due to technical or financial requirements.
Construction is expected to take roughly three years. The project will be supported by up to $114 million in financing from the North American Development Bank to fund the necessary distribution infrastructure, including pipes and pumps.
