Cox’s Bazar development authority demolishes Inani resort
The Cox’s Bazar Development Authority (CoxDA) conducted a joint enforcement operation on Monday to demolish a four-storey resort building in the Inani Beach area of Ukhiya. The operation, which involved the district administration, police, fire service, and the Department of Environment, also resulted in the destruction of 10-12 shops located near the structure.
Officials stated the demolition was necessary because the building was constructed illegally and the owner failed to comply with four previous notices to remove the structure.
The property owner, Shahidul Haque, claims the resort, valued at approximately Tk 60 million, was built with valid permissions from the Jaliapalong Union Parishad dating back to 2014. Haque argues that the construction was lawful under the jurisdiction existing at the time of approval and has expressed concern that the enforcement action, taken before a scheduled administrative hearing, could discourage tourism investment in the region.
