Cox's Bazar faces safety and security concerns in tourism sector
The tourism hub of Cox's Bazar is facing dual challenges regarding illegal activities and fire safety. Reports indicate that several residential hotels and motels have established spa centers, beauty parlors, and salons that serve as fronts for illicit activities. These establishments, often operating under trade licenses issued by the Cox's Bazar municipality, are accused of engaging in immoral activities involving young women under the guise of body massages. Local residents and mosque committees have expressed embarrassment and called for the closure of these centers, noting their presence in residential areas.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out in the parking area of The Sea Presence residential hotel in the Sugandha Point area. Approximately 300 tourists were staying in the hotel at the time, but all were rescued safely. Fire service officials believe the blaze, which damaged a generator and other property, was caused by a short circuit. This incident follows a recent fatal fire at Tupu Tupu Resort in Inani, raising significant concerns regarding the effectiveness of fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in the region's hospitality industry.
