Coyoacán authorities suspend demolition work after tree collapse

The Coyoacán local government has ordered the suspension of demolition works at a property located at 70 Inglaterra Street in the Parque San Andrés neighborhood. The decision follows the collapse of a tree approximately 20 meters tall during the early hours of Thursday, November 5.

The incident resulted in material damage to an adjacent private property, but no injuries were reported. While the demolition project holds the necessary administrative permits, authorities noted there was no authorization for the removal or cutting of vegetation at the site.

Officials from the Environmental and Territorial Planning Agency (PAOT) and the Ministry of the Environment (SEDEMA) are investigating the exact causes of the collapse. Although legal and verification officials attempted to place official suspension seals on the site, members of a civil organization prevented them from doing so. To avoid confrontations, authorities withdrew, though the project remains legally suspended. Urban Services and Civil Protection crews remained on-site to clear the tree debris.
