Coyote management and deterrence in residential areas

As coyotes become increasingly common in urban and suburban environments, managing their presence in residential areas is essential for safety and hygiene. When dealing with coyote scat, it is recommended to wear disposable gloves and use disinfectant to prevent the transmission of parasites and diseases to humans and pets.

To deter coyotes from returning, property owners should remove attractants such as outdoor pet food, unsecured garbage, fallen fruit, and bird feeders that attract rodents. Additionally, reducing dense vegetation and standing water can make a yard less appealing for shelter and hydration.

Coyote urine can also serve as a natural deterrent for various animals, including rabbits, deer, and rodents. By strategically placing the scent around a property perimeter or garden, the presence of a predator is mimicked, triggering a fear response in prey animals.
