Coyote populations expand across most of the United States
Coyotes have demonstrated a significant territorial expansion across North America, establishing a presence in nearly all 50 U.S. states. Hawaii remains the only state where the species is definitively absent.
Several factors drive this expansion, including the species' adaptability as opportunistic omnivores and their ability to tolerate human activity in urban and suburban environments. The decline of apex predators, such as wolves, has also removed significant competition, allowing coyote populations to flourish in diverse habitats.
