Coyote vs. Acme achieves box office success after Warner Bros. sale

The film “Coyote vs. Acme” has achieved a successful theatrical release after being shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 for tax write-off purposes. Following public outcry and creative community protests, the studio sold the global distribution rights to Ketchup Entertainment for a fixed price of approximately $50 million.

As a result of this deal, Warner Bros. will not receive a percentage of the box office revenue, which has seen significant early success. The film debuted with approximately $15.4 million in the North American market and has surpassed $20 million to $32 million in total global earnings during its opening period. In Mexico, the film has performed exceptionally well, reaching the number one spot at the box office.

Directed by Dave Green and starring John Cena, Will Forte, and Lana Condor, the live-action and animation hybrid explores a legal battle where Wile E. Coyote sues the ACME Corporation for defective products. The film’s unexpected comeback has sparked discussions regarding the fate of other cancelled projects, such as the DC film “Batgirl.”
