Coyote vs. ACME released after Warner Bros. shelving controversy
The film ‘Coyote vs. ACME’, a Looney Tunes-based production written and produced by James Gunn, has been released following a controversial decision by Warner Bros. to shelve the project.
Originally scheduled for a 2023 theatrical release, Warner Bros. decided not to move forward with the film, citing a shift in global strategy toward theatrical releases and the belief that the movie would not be profitable enough to justify marketing and distribution costs. Reports indicate the studio initially intended to treat the film as a $30 million tax write-off.
Following public outcry, the film was sold to Ketchup Entertainment for $50 million. The movie, which stars John Cena and Will Forte, features a blend of live-action and animation. The plot follows Wile E. Coyote as he sues the ACME Corporation for years of catastrophic product failures. Cast member Will Forte described the shelving of the completed film as a ‘very frustrating story,’ noting that the film had tested well with audiences prior to the studio's decision.
