Coyote vs. Acme to receive theatrical release after being shelved
The Looney Tunes film ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ is set for a theatrical release following a period of uncertainty. Originally produced by Warner Animation Group, the project was shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023, a move that allowed the studio to claim a tax write-off of approximately $30 million.
Ketchup Entertainment has since acquired the rights to the film for roughly $50 million, facilitating its rescue and upcoming distribution. The live-action/animation hybrid, directed by Dave Green and starring John Cena and Will Forte, has already received strong critical reception, holding a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Star John Cena has expressed a professional outlook on the film’s troubled journey, noting that while he wants his work to be seen, he recognizes that the ultimate decisions regarding distribution belong to the rights holders. The film follows Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation for faulty products.
