Cozumel beach club attack results in man losing arm
A 30-year-old man, identified as Esteban, lost his right arm following a suspected crocodile attack at a beach club in the southern zone of Cozumel on Wednesday morning. The victim, originally from Chiapas and reportedly working as a security guard at Paradise Beach, was transported to a private clinic around 6:00 AM due to the severity of his injuries.
Alfredo Arellano Villaseñor, director of Cozumel Protection Civil, stated that his department did not receive an official report or emergency call regarding the incident. Authorities only became aware of the situation through unofficial information and social media posts. Protection Civil plans to investigate the circumstances of the attack and determine if the beach club followed mandatory emergency protocols.
Failure to notify emergency services like 911 could result in economic sanctions for the establishment. This incident follows a recent event in the same area where a 1.5-meter crocodile was captured and relocated by lifeguards and Protection Civil at Playa Caletita.
