Cozumel Bird Festival records 70 species during conservation event
The XVIII Isla Cozumel Bird Festival recently concluded, featuring birdwatching tours through the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park and the San Gervasio Tourist Stop. Organized in collaboration with the Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC), the event drew 112 participants who recorded 70 different bird species.
Notable sightings included the osprey, the seven-colored motmot, and several endemic species such as the Cozumel emerald hummingbird, the Cozumel wren, the Cozumel vireo, and the Cozumel cardinal. The festival's program extended beyond observation to include environmental workshops, conferences, a documentary screening, and an environmental fair.
This initiative aligns with the New Agreement for Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, a program promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa to foster institutional and community cooperation in protecting natural heritage and promoting environmental education.
