Cozumel hosts inaugural Pueblos Mágicos Triathlon 2026

The inaugural Pueblos Mágicos Triathlon 2026 was held in Cozumel, generating an estimated preliminary economic impact of over 13 million pesos. According to Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the event attracted more than 350 triathletes and their companions, benefiting local sectors including lodging, restaurants, transport, and commerce.

The event also featured a Parrillero Festival, a Cultural Festival, and musical performances. Officials noted that such sports tourism initiatives aim to diversify visitor experiences and reduce seasonal tourism fluctuations in the region.

However, the event faced criticism from some participants regarding the prize structure. Reports indicated that the first-place prize was 1,200 pesos, an amount lower than the registration fees, which reached up to 1,750 pesos. Some athletes expressed dissatisfaction, noting that travel and lodging costs far outweighed the potential economic incentives provided by the organizers.
