Global maritime emergencies involve migrant rescues, missing persons, and ferry fires

Multiple maritime emergencies have been reported across different regions.

In the Canary Islands, Salvamento Marítimo rescued 152 migrants from a cayuco off the coast of El Hierro after a two-week journey from Gambia. The group, consisting of 115 men, 22 women, and 15 minors, faced severe weather conditions. One adult male was found dead on board, and several survivors required medical attention for dehydration and hypothermia.

In Mexico, a search operation in the waters between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel resulted in the rescue of 28-year-old José Eduardo, who was found with severe dehydration after being adrift on a jet ski. However, his companion, 51-year-old Francisco Enrique Huerta Martínez, remains missing. Authorities are investigating a potential mechanical failure as the cause.

In the Philippines, a fire broke out on the ferry MV June Auster near Coron in the Palawan province. Preliminary reports indicate at least five deaths and 86 people missing. The fire reportedly originated in the cargo hold, and search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate the remaining passengers.
