Cozumel to host Catrina characterization contest for Day of the Dead
The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) has announced the Catrina Characterization Contest, scheduled for October 25 at the Museo de la Isla. The event is part of the “Tradición, Luz y Reencuentro” festival celebrating Day of the Dead.
The contest features two categories: Children (ages 6 to 14) and Open (ages 15 and up). Participants must design characterizations inspired by Mexican historical figures related to art, culture, or social life, incorporating traditional Day of the Dead symbolism. The competition will follow a runway format, with a jury evaluating makeup, costume, creativity, body expression, stage presence, and adherence to Mexican traditions.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in each category. Registration is available at the BiblioAvión Gervasio between 09:00 and 15:00 hours until one hour before the event begins. The FPMC noted that costumes or messages containing political content or those contrary to public morals are prohibited.
