CPI(M) leaders criticize Kerala government over RTI exemptions and development
CPI(M) leaders have launched a series of criticisms against the Congress-led UDF government in Kerala, alleging moves to reduce transparency and stall state development.
Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan accused the government of suppressing transparency by exempting two sections of the state Vigilance department from the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Vijayan claimed the notification, which brings the T1 and T2 sections of the VACB directorate under exemptions similar to intelligence agencies, is an attempt to conceal corruption allegations against political leaders. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala defended the decision, stating that confidentiality is essential for Vigilance investigations.
Additionally, CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan accused the government of undermining public services and infrastructure. Govindan specifically criticized the proposed restructuring of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), arguing that the move could stall projects worth significant sums in roads, schools, and hospitals. He further alleged that the administration is weakening public healthcare and education to align with corporate and central government agendas.
