CPLP nations conduct Exercício Felino 2026 in Brazil

The Exercício Felino 2026 is currently taking place in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, from August 10 to 21. Coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, this multinational military exercise brings together members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) to simulate rapid response actions in conflict and instability scenarios.

The exercise involves approximately 700 Brazilian military personnel and 38 participants from Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, and Timor-Leste. The training utilizes 119 vehicles from the Navy, Army, and Air Force, as well as eight naval vessels and two aircraft.

According to Division General Julio Cesar Belaguarda Nagy de Oliveira, the exercise is the primary joint military activity for the CPLP. It aims to prepare armed forces for United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions by enhancing interoperability, decision-making, and command and control. Practical training includes explosive ordnance disposal, civilian protection, chemical threat response, and humanitarian assistance for refugees.
