CPN-UML proposes reinstating Bidya Devi Bhandari as senior leader

The CPN-UML party has proposed reinstating former President Bidya Devi Bhandari as an honorary senior leader. This move, proposed by the party’s Secretariat, would place her second in the party hierarchy, directly following Chairman KP Sharma Oli. The proposal is set to be presented to the Central Committee for final approval.

Political analysts suggest this decision could shift the internal power balance within the party. While it may satisfy supporters of Bhandari, it could also lead to political polarization if the leadership does not provide her with sufficient space to remain active.

During a Central Committee meeting, member Vishnu Rijal called for clarity regarding the party’s relationship with the Nepal Army. Rijal expressed concern that recent rhetoric from party leadership has created confusion and potential friction with the state’s permanent structures. He also advocated for the creation of a dedicated digital department to modernize the party’s propaganda and outreach efforts.
