CPTM reports significant CO2 reductions via rail transport

CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos) has released its second Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory, marking its official integration into the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program. The report, which received a Silver Seal for transparency and eligibility, calculated total emissions for 2025 at 24,000 tons of CO2 equivalent.

Company representatives noted that rail transport is significantly more efficient than road transport, emitting 26 times less CO2 than public road services. Specifically, on the Line 10-Turquesa, a single train trip can transport the equivalent of 1,700 cars. Data indicates that while a car passenger emits 142 grams of CO2 per kilometer, a CPTM user emits only 2.7 grams per kilometer.
