Cracovia football club honors Pope John Paul II with special kit
The Polish football club Cracovia has introduced a special commemorative kit to honor Saint John Paul II, one of the club’s most famous supporters. The initiative coincides with the anniversary of his election to the papacy, observed on October 16 as Pope John Paul II Day.
The kit features a light blue color inspired by the waters of the Zakrzówek quarry, where Karol Wojtyła worked between 1940 and 1941. The design includes the inscription “Ojcze Święty, pamięta Cię Twoja Cracovia” (Holy Father, your Cracovia remembers you) on the neck, and the club has reserved the number 1 in honor of the Pope.
Cracovia president Murat Çolak presented a commemorative jersey featuring the Pope’s name and the reserved number 1 to Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś. The players wore the special attire during a PKO Ekstraklasa match against Legia Warszawa.
