Craigdarroch Castle to host after-hours Victorian history tours in October
Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria is relaunching its after-hours Curiosities of Craigdarroch tour this October. The 90-minute guided experience focuses on the darker aspects of Victorian life, including attitudes toward death, mourning, and the supernatural.
Participants will learn about historical practices such as séances, taxidermy, and hair art used for memorializing the deceased. The tour also covers tragedies involving the Dunsmuir family, including stories regarding a medium and the death of Robert Dunsmuir, as well as a historical event involving 500 masked individuals carrying torches.
The tours are scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. throughout October, with special Saturday sessions on October 3, 10, and 24. Due to the mature subject matter, the experience is recommended for adults. Tickets are priced at $35 and require advance purchase.
