Craiova, Romania, has been ranked as the best Christmas market in Europe for 2026 by the European Best Destinations platform, based on votes from over 800,000 travelers. The market, which covers more than 280,000 square meters, will feature a ‘Nutcracker’ theme and includes attractions such as a Ferris wheel, an ice rink, and Eastern Europe’s highest-flying Santa sleigh.

The event is scheduled to run from November 13, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Other top-ranked destinations in the final selection of 20 markets include Zurich, Switzerland, in second place, followed by Riga, Latvia, in third, Lisbon, Portugal, in fourth, and Debrecen, Hungary, in fifth.

Across Europe, various major cities are preparing for the 2026-2027 festive season. In Romania, Sibiu’s market opens on November 13, while Bucharest’s festivities begin on November 27. Other European highlights include Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, and Colmar, with many markets operating from mid-November through early January.
