Cran and Nored sign MoU to advance Namibia’s digital connectivity

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (Cran) and Nored Electricity (Pty) Ltd have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to coordinate digital connectivity and rural electrification efforts. Signed on August 25, 2026, in Ondangwa, the non-binding agreement aims to support Namibia’s digital transformation and socio-economic development by bridging infrastructure gaps.

The partnership focuses on the convergence of communications and electricity infrastructure. Key areas of collaboration include information and data sharing, joint infrastructure planning, and capacity building. Specifically, the agreement allows for the exchange of information regarding power outages that could disrupt communications networks, enabling better coordination between the two sectors.

Cran Chief Executive Officer Emilia Nghikembua stated that the partnership is essential for advancing a digitally enabled economy and improving service delivery in underserved and rural areas. While the agreement establishes a framework for cooperation, specific investment budgets, rollout schedules, or coverage targets have not yet been announced.
