Cranberry consumption linked to improved memory and lower cholesterol

Research from the University of East Anglia suggests that regular consumption of red cranberries may provide significant cognitive and cardiovascular benefits. A study involving 60 healthy participants found that those who consumed red cranberry powder daily for 12 weeks performed better on memory tests involving everyday recall.

In addition to memory improvements, the study observed enhanced cerebral blood flow and a reduction in LDL, or ‘bad’ cholesterol, levels. The fruit is rich in plant compounds such as flavonoids, which are often studied for their impact on vascular health and brain function. While the results are promising, researchers noted that larger, long-term studies are required to determine if cranberry consumption can prevent or treat dementia.
