Cranbrook House residents return home following emergency evacuation

Sixty residents of Cranbrook House in Nottingham were evacuated in the early hours of Saturday, 19 September, following a major water leak. The flooding affected three floors of the building and significantly compromised its fire safety systems.

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Nottingham City Council coordinated the emergency response. Displaced residents who could not stay with friends or family were supported at St Mary’s Church, with assistance from the British Red Cross providing blankets, hot drinks, and advice. Nottingham City Council also opened Loxley House to provide food, refreshments, and support in finding temporary accommodation.

Less than 24 hours after the initial evacuation, residents were permitted to return to their homes. Contractors worked alongside fire safety inspectors to ensure that appropriate fire alarms were installed and fully operational before the building was declared safe for re-entry.
