Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society seeks property for hospice house
The Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society is actively searching for a suitable property to establish a hospice house for end-of-life care. While the society has identified the Mount Baker RV Campground as the most ideal location, a vacant parcel of land in the Highlands neighbourhood remains a viable option. A final site has not yet been selected.
George Watson, chair of the society, addressed recent misunderstandings regarding the Mount Baker RV Campground property. He noted that the society had initially believed the city council was exploring future options for the land, which led to an apparent conflict with the RV park operators. Watson stated that the society did not intend to cause friction with the campground residents.
The initiative aims to address a significant gap in regional healthcare, as there are currently no hospice houses located between the Okanagan and the Alberta border, and palliative care beds in the region are extremely limited.
