Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Price pushes for hospice land donation reconsideration

Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Price has asked city council to overturn a recent decision to seek public input on donating city‑owned land to the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society. The society wants a portion of the Mount Baker RV Campground to build a 10‑bed hospice house.

Council had approved a public‑input process on July 27, but the timeline may extend beyond the October municipal election. Hospice representatives warn that a delay could push the donation decision into the next calendar year and jeopardise potential financial contributions. A special council meeting is scheduled for August 10 to debate the mayor’s motion; if approved, the land could be donated immediately and other options would be considered.
