Crans-Montana fire victims: Last patient discharged from Milan hospital
Francesca, a 17-year-old student, has been discharged from Niguarda Hospital in Milan after 224 days of treatment. She was the final patient among twelve individuals transferred to Milan following the New Year's Eve fire at the ‘Le Constellation’ venue in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.
Lombardy Welfare Assessor Guido Bertolaso described the discharge as the completion of a mission, noting that all twelve patients seriously injured in the tragedy have now returned home. The medical response involved over 100 professionals and complex procedures, including more than 50 surgeries and the use of 25,000 square centimeters of skin from a tissue bank.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed his gratitude to the Lombardy healthcare staff for their professionalism and humanity during the emergency. While the medical phase for these patients concludes, legal investigations into the fire continue in Switzerland, with the Italian government planning to appeal a decision regarding its involvement in the inquiry.
