Crazy Rich Asians television series announced by HBO

HBO and Warner Bros. Television are collaborating on an eight-episode television series based on the ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ franchise. The project, which is expected to begin production in 2027, serves as a sequel to the 2018 film and aims to expand upon the world established in Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novels.

Key cast members expected to return include Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, and Ronny Chieng. Director Jon M. Chu will serve as an executive producer, while Adele Lim, co-writer of the original film, will act as showrunner. The series is intended to provide more depth to the characters and family dynamics than a feature film allows.

While the announcement confirmed several returning actors, some fans have noted the absence of Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. from the initial details, despite their characters having pivotal roles in the original story. Filming is expected to take place in locations such as New York and Singapore.
