Criciúma defeated Avaí 3-0 in a state derby during the 30th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B at the Heriberto Hülse stadium. The match marked the official debut of Criciúma's new coach, Umberto Louzer.

After a scoreless first half, the second half saw rapid changes. Criciúma took the lead through an own goal by Avaí's Reynaldo. The advantage was bolstered when Avaí's Zé Ricardo received a second yellow card, leaving his team with ten men. Luciano Castan scored a header following a set piece by Otero, and Willean Lepo completed the scoring with a long-range shot.

Following the loss, Avaí announced the dismissal of head coach Allan Aal. The club's football director, Pedro Costa, confirmed that Marquinhos Santos will take over technical command until the next match against Ceará. The defeat leaves Avaí in the relegation zone at 17th place with 30 points, while Criciúma climbed to 5th place with 50 points.
