Cárdenas faces water shortage amid infrastructure developments

The municipality of Cárdenas is facing a significant water crisis, with approximately 70% of residents deprived of potable water for several days. Juan Correoso Navarro, the municipal director of Hydrology, attributed the disruption to an electrical failure at the Smith Comas well field, likely caused by a lightning strike that incapacitated a substation transformer and a 100-liter-per-second pump. Authorities are attempting to manage the shortage by distributing water via tanker trucks, though coverage remains limited.

In a separate development regarding local infrastructure, Governor Javier May Rodríguez has highlighted ongoing improvements to public services in the region. During a working tour, May Rodríguez oversaw the start of a sewage collector construction project in the Prados subdivision and delivered a rehabilitated deep-well potable water system in the Santana Segunda rancheria, benefiting roughly 1,400 residents. Additionally, the governor announced that 600 million pesos have been allocated to complete a municipal hospital that had remained unfinished for 18 years.
