Crédit Agricole to acquire IKB Deutsche Industriebank from Lone Star
Crédit Agricole has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of IKB Deutsche Industriebank from the US-based Lone Star Funds. The acquisition is intended to strengthen the French banking group’s presence in the German market, specifically targeting the Mittelstand, or small and medium-sized enterprises.
IKB, headquartered in Düsseldorf and founded in 1924, specializes in long-term financing, capital markets, and advisory services. As of the end of 2025, the bank reported total assets of €14.3 billion, a loan book of €8.2 billion, and a net income of €61 million. The bank employs approximately 600 people across six German locations.
The transaction is part of Crédit Agricole’s ACT 2028 strategic plan to expand its European footprint. The acquisition will be self-funded and is expected to reduce the group’s CET1 ratio by approximately 20 basis points upon completion. The deal is targeted to close by the end of the second quarter of 2027, pending antitrust clearance, approval from the European Central Bank, and compliance with the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
