Crédit Mutuel Arkéa hit by cyberattack involving significant fund theft

The French regional bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa reported being the victim of a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of funds through fraudulent transactions. While specific loss figures vary across reports, estimates range from 100 million to 133 million euros.

According to blockchain investigator ZachXBT, the attackers allegedly transferred the stolen funds to cryptocurrency exchanges to convert them into stablecoins, such as USDC and USDT. The bank stated that the incident is under control and that customer deposits and assets remain protected, noting that the attackers used the bank's own accounts to facilitate transfers rather than accessing individual customer accounts.

In a separate but related series of cyber incidents in France, the Ministry of Health reported an attack on blood bank facilities. The breach affected monitoring and cooling control systems, but officials confirmed that blood supplies and derivatives were not compromised due to rapid intervention by staff.
