Crédit Mutuel posts record profit and refuses to fund presidential candidates as Amundi also hits earnings record

Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale reported a net profit of €2.085 billion for the first half of 2026, a 14 % increase year‑on‑year, driven by strong performance of its retail networks and the integration of German bank OLB. The group highlighted investments in technology, artificial intelligence and solidarity actions such as loan moratoriums for fire‑affected households in southern France.

The bank also announced it will not provide financing to any candidate in the upcoming French presidential election, saying the lack of an explicit state guarantee makes such loans too risky. The decision was explained by Daniel Baal, president of Crédit Mutuel, amid discussions with the government about possible state‑backed risk‑sharing schemes.

Amundi posted record first‑half 2026 results, with net profit up 29 % in the second quarter and assets under management reaching about €2.6 trillion at the end of June. Net inflows totaled €56 billion for the six‑month period, including €24 billion in Q2. The firm also saw its joint venture SBI Funds Management listed in India at a valuation exceeding €10 billion.
