Máximo Kirchner criticizes RIGI investment regime and vows audits
Máximo Kirchner, a national deputy for Unión por la Patria, has criticized the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI) implemented by President Javier Milei, describing it as nearly a ‘statute of colonialism.’ Kirchner argued that the regime provides excessive fiscal, customs, and exchange benefits to global giants, often for projects that were already planned, while creating inequalities for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He specifically noted that large mining firms may pay lower income tax rates than local businesses.
Kirchner warned that if Peronism returns to power in the 2027 elections, the government will audit every RIGI project individually. He stated that while legitimate acquired rights would be respected, an audit is necessary to ensure companies do not receive benefits only to later sell their projects.
In related political developments, Mayra Mendoza, a senator and mayor, emphasized that the political future of the opposition depends on Cristina Kirchner’s ability to run for office, stating, ‘It is Cristina free or nothing.’ Meanwhile, Governor Martín Llaryora of Córdoba has criticized the current economic direction, citing a crisis in employment and the closure of SMEs, while promoting provincial investment programs to bridge regional development gaps.
