Córdoba City Council approves municipal employee statute reforms

The Córdoba City Council has approved a reform to the Municipal Employee Statute (Ordinance No. 7244) to strengthen entry requirements and ongoing oversight for municipal staff. The initiative, supported by Mayor Daniel Passerini and various legislative blocs, applies to permanent, transitory, and contract staff, as well as political officials.

Under the new regulations, employees must undergo annual checks, including criminal and misdemeanor background certificates from the Córdoba Police, the National Registry of Recidivism, the Registry of Delinquent Alimony Debtors, and the Registry of Convicted Sexual Offenders. Additionally, the reform mandates annual urine tests for illegal psychotropic drugs, with the possibility of random or targeted testing in sensitive operational areas.

Staff members are now required to formally report any criminal indictments or judicial measures, even if the incidents occur outside their official duties. The municipal executive branch has 30 days to regulate and publish the new norm following its legislative approval.
