Córdoba City Council rejects summer cinema protection motion

The Córdoba City Council has rejected a proposal by the PSOE to declare the city's summer cinemas as being of public social interest. The motion was defeated following an amendment by the PP, which holds an absolute majority in the plenary session.

While the PP rejected the specific declaration, the party stated it remains committed to a roadmap to ensure the continuity of these spaces. The PP expressed intentions to eventually acquire the properties to allow for year-round use compatible with cinema activities. Local neighborhood associations, such as San Lorenzo Existe, have advocated for the public acquisition of the historic Delicias, Fuenseca, Olimpia, and Coliseo San Andrés cinemas, requesting they be designated as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC).

During the same plenary session, political tensions rose when Vox councilor Miguel Castellano referred to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez using derogatory language during a debate regarding the crisis in Ceuta. Castellano, a former Ciudadanos member, defended his remarks by citing linguistic definitions of the terms used.
