Córdoba court dismisses pandemic health procurement case

A court in Córdoba has ordered the provisional dismissal of proceedings against Valle García Sánchez, the former manager of the Córdoba-Hospital Universitario Reina Sofía Health Logistics Platform. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by the PSOE regarding health procurement processes during the 2020 and 2021 Covid-19 pandemic periods.

The complaint alleged irregularities in the use of minor contracts and contract extensions, suggesting these methods may have been used to bypass standard competitive bidding and transparency requirements. The initial allegations included administrative malfeasance, embezzlement, falsification of documents, and fraud in public procurement.

However, the magistrate concluded that the administrative irregularities examined do not constitute sufficient evidence of administrative malfeasance or other crimes against the Public Administration. The ruling highlighted the specific context of the investigations, noting that the contracts occurred during the pandemic and its immediate aftermath, a period characterized by supply shortages and the urgent need to ensure the continuity of essential health services.
