Russia named Guest of Honor at Havana International Book Fair

The 34th Havana International Book Fair is being held from August 10 to 16, featuring Russia as the Guest of Honor. The event serves as a platform for cultural diplomacy between Russia and Cuba, highlighting deep-seated bilateral ties.

The program includes a vast array of literary and artistic offerings, such as the display of over 1,500 classical and contemporary Russian titles and more than 3,000 digital books. Cultural activities extend beyond literature to include film screenings at the Yara cinema—featuring both contemporary Russian films and Soviet classics like "Don Quijote" (1957)—and musical performances by the Rossiya State Academic Folk Ensemble.

Organizers noted that the fair aims to honor the legacy of Fidel Castro and celebrated Cuban writers Marilyn Bobes and José Bell Lara. Despite facing logistical and material challenges in Cuba, the fair incorporates digital platforms and new distribution methods to reach readers and adapt to modern consumption habits.
