Córdoba launches campaign to identify victims of the military dictatorship

Authorities in Córdoba have launched an inter-institutional campaign titled ‘La tierra habla. Tu sangre puede darles nombre’ (The earth speaks. Your blood can give them a name) to identify victims of the military dictatorship that ruled Argentina between 1974 and 1983.

The initiative seeks to encourage families of the disappeared to provide genetic samples. This effort follows progress in the ‘Causa Enterramientos’ investigation and the discovery of skeletal remains at Loma del Torito, located near the former La Perla clandestine detention and torture center. To date, these forensic efforts have successfully identified 30 missing persons, but many remains still await identification.

The campaign is a collaborative effort involving the Córdoba provincial government, the Municipality of Córdoba, the Federal Judiciary, the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF), and provincial memory spaces. Officials emphasized that the genetic sampling is free, confidential, and used exclusively for identification purposes to provide answers to families.
