Córdoba launches methane emission study in cattle
The Government of Córdoba is conducting a pilot study to technically evaluate methane emissions produced by its bovine herds. Funded by the World Bank, the initiative aims to provide accurate data tailored to provincial production systems to address claims regarding the impact of cattle on greenhouse gas emissions.
Minister of Bio-industry Sergio Busso and Secretary of Livestock Marcelo Calle stated that the research focuses on two specific production types: dairy cows and beef breeding cows. The study examines emissions resulting from different nutritional strategies, specifically comparing natural pasture feeding against diets composed of silage and balanced feeds.
The study on dairy herds has been completed and is expected to be published soon, while the report regarding beef breeding cattle is anticipated by the end of this year or early next year.
