Córdoba parents face high school fees and alleged payment irregularities

Parents in the Córdoba region of Veracruz are facing significant financial pressure ahead of the 2026-2027 school year due to requested contributions from Parent Associations. These fees, ranging from 1,500 to 3,600 pesos per student, are being added to the existing costs of uniforms and school supplies.

Several schools have been identified, including the Francisco Hernández and Hernández “Cantonal”, Ana Francisca de Irivas “Mascarón”, Ursulo Galván, and Carlos A. Carrillo primary schools, as well as Secundaria General Número 1 “Enrique Herrera Moreno”.

In Secundaria General Número 2 “Jorge Cuesta Porte Petit”, parents have alleged irregularities, claiming Director José Antonio Peña requested cash payments and instructed teachers to collect funds. Families are calling for intervention from the Veracruz Secretary of Education (SEV) to ensure that these contributions remain voluntary and do not serve as a condition for enrollment or access to classes.
