Washington's Kaiser Canyon Fire forces evacuation of 1,000 residents

A lightning‑sparked wildfire known as the Kaiser Canyon Fire erupted on the Colville Reservation in Okanogan County, Washington, expanding from 12,500 acres on Friday to over 46,000 acres by Saturday evening. The blaze prompted the evacuation of roughly 1,000 people from about 800 structures in the town of Nespelem and surrounding communities. More than 25 agencies and 500 firefighters, including dozers, brush trucks, engines and air support, worked the fire, while a national incident management team was slated to arrive. No serious injuries were reported, but structures were lost and containment remained at zero percent.

Similar wildfire incidents unfolded elsewhere in the week. In Bolivia's Tarija department, strong winds fueled a forest fire near Quirusillas, drawing volunteer firefighters, police, and army units; authorities warned of severe environmental impact. Argentina's Jujuy province activated a coordinated emergency operation to protect health, safety and water services amid a windstorm that heightened fire risk. The Umatilla National Forest in Oregon saw four lightning‑caused fires—Paradise, Horse Ridge, Hagen and Ninemile—under a regional incident management team, while multiple small fires burned across the Okanogan‑Wenatchee National Forest under challenging access conditions. Additional fires burned in San Luis (Argentina), Quito (Ecuador) and the Otuquis National Park (Bolivia), each prompting local firefighting responses.
