Córdoba Provincial Council adopts AI governance framework

The Diputación de Córdoba approved a comprehensive plan to regulate the use, incorporation and contracting of artificial‑intelligence systems within the provincial administration and its public‑sector partners. Presented by Sara Alguacil, delegate for Technological Development, Digital Transformation and Youth, the policy sets common rules for ethical, safe, transparent and responsible AI deployment, covering the entire lifecycle from development to retirement.

The framework is built on five pillars – governance, transparency, human oversight, data‑rights protection and verifiable public utility – and defines four risk levels (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal) that dictate permissible applications. A catalog of authorised tools will be maintained, with technical supervision provided by the Empresa Provincial de Informática (Eprinsa). The rules apply to all council staff, autonomous bodies, public companies, consortia and external contractors, and the council will also advise municipalities on AI use.

The measure aims to accelerate administrative procedures while ensuring human control and data protection, reflecting growing concerns about unchecked AI tools in the public sector.
