Córdoba rural schools operating with single students

In the Córdoba province of Argentina, three rural schools in the San Justo department are operating with only one student each for the 2026 school year. These institutions include General San Martín in El Fortín, Guillermo Enrique Hudson in Pozo El Chaya, and Facundo Quiroga in La Quemada-Tránsito.

These three schools are part of a larger group of 35 rural schools across the province that currently have a single-student enrollment. Córdoba maintains a total of 821 rural primary schools. In these cases, a single teacher typically serves as both instructor and director.

Governor Martín Llaryora stated that the province is prioritizing education to ensure access regardless of geographic location or economic complexity. The decision to keep these schools open aims to support students in remote areas where difficult terrain, weather, or road conditions make traveling to urban centers impractical. To support these remote locations, the government has implemented a satellite connectivity plan for all 821 rural and mountain schools.
