Córdoba Vice Mayor Javier Pretto Mulls Future Mayoral Run

Javier Pretto, the current vice mayor of Córdoba, said he is interested in running for the city’s mayoralty. He indicated that a candidacy could materialise in the next municipal elections, which may be held next year or later, depending on the political scenario. Pretto’s comments come as incumbent mayor Daniel Passerini is barred from seeking re‑election after serving a term alongside Martín Llaryora, opening the field for new leadership.

Pretto traced his political trajectory from the early days of Argentine democracy, noting affiliations with the Democratic Party, Ucedé, Unión por Córdoba and PRO before returning to Ucedé. He highlighted his role in the municipal administration, praising the city’s traffic‑controller system and discussing challenges such as informal street vending and municipal tax pressures. He stressed the need for candidates to step forward to sustain public services.

The vice mayor’s remarks suggest a possible reshuffle within Córdoba’s ruling coalition as parties begin to position themselves for the upcoming electoral contest.
