Crea-SP promotes training on new swimming pool safety standards

Crea-SP is conducting training sessions regarding new safety standards and regulations for swimming pools. Due to recent changes in municipal and federal legislation, the construction, maintenance, and adaptation of pools in residential, club, and condominium settings now require more rigorous technical planning to ensure structural durability and user safety.

To achieve compliance, projects must simultaneously adhere to two technical standards from the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT): NBR 10339, which covers general requirements for safe construction of tanks, surroundings, machine rooms, and changing rooms; and NBR 9050, which focuses on accessibility requirements for pool access and facilities.

Key safety concerns include waterproofing specifications, bottom drain installation, and the presence of emergency stop buttons for pumps. Experts recommend monthly inspections for routine use and annual structural verifications covering waterproofing, grouting, and piping. A critical safety point is the suction system of bottom drains, which can create vacuums if proper protection devices are not installed.
