Creality Ender 3 modifications for expanded printing and pen plotting

Hobbyists are utilizing modification kits and custom designs to expand the capabilities of Creality Ender 3 series 3D printers.

One modification involves the Ender Extender 400 kit, which increases the build platform of an Ender 3 Pro from 235mm to 400mm square. The process requires replacing the frame with longer aluminum extrusions and a larger print bed, often supplemented by a 600W mains-powered heating pad to manage the increased surface area.

Other users are repurposing Ender 3 V2 printers for non-printing tasks, such as creating pen plotters for embroidery patterns. This involves designing custom mounts to accommodate tools like heat-erasable pens while maintaining compatibility with existing hardware, such as BL-Touch leveling probes and X-axis limit switches.
