Crecer Lab and Taco Bell launch drone food delivery in Santo Domingo
Crecer Lab and Taco Bell have launched a pilot drone delivery service in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The initiative utilizes an authorized urban flight corridor to transport food orders, specifically targeting the area between the Taco Bell branch on Winston Churchill Avenue and the Torre WC at the Centro Financiero Crecer.
According to Carlos Barranco, general manager of Crecer Lab, the drones operate autonomously at an altitude of approximately 300 feet and a speed of 55 kilometers per hour. The flight time to the destination is roughly 90 seconds, with the entire delivery process taking between five and seven minutes. The service has received technical and regulatory approval from the Instituto Dominicano de Aviación Civil (IDAC).
The project aims to reduce vehicular traffic and carbon emissions while creating specialized technical jobs. This implementation follows four years of research and development and two years of operational experience with the country's first authorized drone corridor.
