CREDAI outlines sustainability plan and clears 60% of Kolkata projects
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) held its first General Body Meeting for FY 2026–27 in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, where it presented a strategic roadmap that expands the sector’s focus to sustainability, technology and workforce welfare. The plan includes a Green Bharat Mission with 6,000 acres of plantation in the Western Ghats, a 150‑acre ecological restoration project in NCR, and skill‑development programmes that have formally trained over 2,500 construction workers and reached more than 37,600 through outreach events. CREDAI also announced partnerships with academic institutions to explore AI‑enabled drone technology for fire safety and faster project approvals.
In West Bengal, CREDAI president Sushil Mohta said that about 60 % of nearly 600 real‑estate projects under scrutiny in Kolkata are expected to receive clearance within days, with most of the remainder likely cleared before the August 15 deadline. The scrutiny, triggered by a warehouse collapse, required revalidation of approvals for projects above four floors. The sector contributes roughly ₹20 trillion in annual investment, ₹7 trillion in tax revenue and supports around five million livelihoods, underscoring the economic importance of the clearances.
