Credit score literacy and history building emphasized in Mexico and Dominican Republic

Financial institutions and experts are emphasizing the importance of understanding credit scores and building credit history. In Mexico, Círculo de Crédito is promoting ‘Mes del Credit Score’ (Credit Score Month) to encourage individuals to monitor their credit information regularly. The initiative aims to move consumers from mere curiosity to a functional understanding of how their credit management is reflected in a score ranging from 300 to 850 points.

In the Dominican Republic, guidance highlights the distinction between having no credit history and having a negative history. Experts note that individuals who have never used credit products do not necessarily have bad records, but rather a lack of data for risk assessment. While financial inclusion through savings accounts and electronic payments is increasing, these activities do not automatically build a credit history, which requires the use of specific credit products and demonstrated repayment behavior.
